Cambridge. Title after the Hawthorne tale "Mosses from an Old Manse". ( This was the first house Hawthorne and his new
wife, Sophia, rented in Concord. The house was owned by his friend and Transendentalist philosopher, Ralph Waldo Emerson.
It was Hawthorne himself who gave title to the house, "The Old Manse", after one of the short stories he wrote when he
& Sophie lived there. ) Artist signature (lower/left) and title (lower right) inscribed in plate. Very good condition;
